The Halloween Gambit in chess is a certain set of moves only possible in the king’s pawn opening; Four knights’ game, which looks like this.
Whites next move might be unbelievable. Before we dive in, if you see a word like g6, it is a coordinate. If you look closely, there are letters on the bottom of the board, look for g (because we are finding g6). and then look for the numbers on the side of the board until you find 6. Then go to the square that they meet on, that is g6. So, the next move white plays is Knight takes e5.
It may seem like a really dumb move that some 100 Elo would play, but it is used in top level games. So black takes the knight not knowing what would happen next. After that, the pawn goes to d4. The knight retreats and white again attacks the knight on f6 by pushing the pawn to e5.
Usually, the Halloween gambit is used to slow down black’s development, but my opponent just gave away his pieces.
